WAR BRIDES RECEIVE FREE WEDDING GOWNS
Fourteen bridal stores throughout the country give away 1400 wedding dresses!
Fargo, ND – March 31, 2004 – On Sunday April 18 and Sunday April 25, bridal salons from around
the country and leading bridal gown manufacturers have joined together to make 1400 military brides’
dreams come true. To distribute over 1400 bridal gowns in one day is the goal of a group of bridal
retailers from North Dakota and Wisconsin, to California and Florida. Manufacturers such as Mori Lee,
Paloma Blanca, Mon Cheri, Alfred Angelo, Christina Wu, Maggie Sottero, Rena Koh and Private Label
by G are donating the wedding gowns. “Around the country many brides and grooms-to-be who have
been on active duty, have had to forgo their wedding day in order to serve our country,” says Judy
Benson of the Bridal Shop, Fargo, ND, organizer of the project. “We just want to thank them and, in our
own way, show our appreciation and be a part of their postponed special day.”
All of the participating stores are independently owned small businesses coordinating their efforts for
this special cross-country event. Each of the 14 participating stores is supplying 100 dresses each on one
day at a total value of $1,000,000.00. Anyone who has served (or is currently serving) in Iraq, Iran,
Afghanistan, Bosnia or Kosovo or whose fiancés has, or is serving, is invited to visit one of the
participating stores to select a FREE wedding gown. In order to be eligible, each bride will need to
present deployment papers. “We have watched these brave men and women put on their fatigues and
smiles, while putting their lives on hold,” continues Benson. “It is our turn to give something to them.”
Several of the stores will be opened exclusively to these military brides and their families on this special
day. The event has been organized to allow these brides and their families the change to regain a sense
of their wedding day dream and to begin to plan and celebrate their new lives together. “It is our
mission to make 1400 wedding dreams come true,” concludes Benson.
